2026 Region V - Scholarship Initiative

Region 5 Arabian Horse Association offers two separate one-time Scholarship awards of $1,000 to a youth 18 and under and an adult 19 and over. Scholarships are for continued college education or for entry into an AHA/USEF/WSH judging/stewarding program.
(Region 5 will review this program on a year to year basis)
CRITERIA:
These scholarships are awarded based on academic ability, horse related activities, organization involvement and an essay.
ELIGIBILITY:
YOUTH applicant:
1.Applicant must be planning to or currently majoring in any profession that requirescollege or other certified training equivalent to a 2-year or 4-year program.
2.Applicant must be enrolled in high school and be a junior or senior or be high schoolgraduates currently enrolled in or planning to enroll in, a post high school programleading to an Associate or Bachelor degree or trade school certification.
3.Applicant must be current, active members of AHA through a Region 5 club partner andreside within the official boundaries of AHA Region 5.
4.Applicant must have 4 hours of community service to Region 5 or their partner club.
ADULT applicant:
1.Applicant must be currently enrolled in a judging or stewarding program with AHA, USEFor WSH or provide proof of enrollment into a higher learning educational institution,continuing education, trade and or business accreditation.
2.Applicant must be a current, active member of AHA through a Region 5 club partner andreside within the official boundaries of AHA Region 5.
3.Applicant must be a citizen of the United States.
4.Applicant must have performed 8 hours of volunteer service to Region 5 or theirpartner club.
REQUIREMENTS:
Official Application and all attachments must be postmarked by June 1st of each year. All category answers should be typed, double-spaced on a separate page.
INTRODUCTION: Introduce yourself in a short autobiography. Describe your interests, hobbies, academic achievements. 25pts
REGION 5 PROMOTION: Describe some ways, you as a Region 5 member can help to promote region 5. 25pts
ESSAY: Essay should describe your future educational goals, Region 5/club partner activities and why you believe you qualify for a Region 5 Scholarship. Essay is to be typed, double-spaced, font 12-14, not to exceed 1500 words. 50pts
LETTERS:
Two letters of recommendation are required from any of the three choices listed below; from an adult 21 and over.
•From a horse person. Comments to be on applicant’s equine abilities and experiences
•From a Teacher/Counselor/Advisor. Comments to indicate quality of work in school.
•From an Employer/Clergy. Comments to focus on integrity or ethics.
Applications will be evaluated on the following components. Introduction 25 pts, Promotional Ideas 25 pts, Essay 50 pts.
Region 5 Board will review all applicants and determine the winner of each scholarship. Points awarded on content, creativity, grammar, mechanics and spelling.
Winner will be notified by June 30th of each year. Proof of acceptance from organization where scholarship will be applied required before funds are granted. Monies applied directly to organization.
Winners must use Scholarship monies within two years of the date of presentation or recipient will forfeit the funds.
